Government decides local administration redundancies affecting over 53,000
Over 53,000 employees in Romania's local administration system will face layoffs according to an emergency ordinance adopted by the government on Wednesday, Romanian news agency Agerpres reads. The government also adopted an emergency ordinance setting a supplementary tax of up to 300% on people who own more than one house and an emergency ordinance doubling the tax on cars with engines higher than 2,000 cc, PM Emil Boc announced by the end of a government session on Wednesday.

Romanian Constitutional Court publishes the reasons on austerity measures decisions
The pension's ratio, set by the contribution principle, is a won right. Therefore, reducing the pension cannot be accepted, not even temporary. This is how the Romanian Constitutional Court motivates its decision to declare the law draft addressing the 15% cut in pension unconstitutional. This cut in pensions was part of the austerity measures' package for which the Boc Cabinet took responsibility in the Parliament.

Judges from the Romanian Constitutional Court (CCR) ruled out this morning (June 25) that several articles addressing austerity laws are unconstitutional. According to judicial sources quoted by Romanian news agency Agerpres, CCR ruled out that certain articled entailed in the Law addressing austerity measures for pensions were declared unconstitutional. The Government has taken responsibility for these laws in the Parliament.
