EC: Lidl's purchase of Plus chains in Romania and Bulgaria might affect competition on local markets

The European Commission sent an evaluation of the proposal of Lidl to purchase Plus chains in Romania and Bulgaria. After an investigation, the Commission concluded that the transaction might affect competition on local markets in the two countries.

Government decides local administration redundancies affecting over 53,000

Over 53,000 employees in Romania's local administration system will face layoffs according to an emergency ordinance adopted by the government on Wednesday, Romanian news agency Agerpres reads. The government also adopted an emergency ordinance setting a supplementary tax of up to 300% on people who own more than one house and an emergency ordinance doubling the tax on cars with engines higher than 2,000 cc, PM Emil Boc announced by the end of a government session on Wednesday.

Romanian Constitutional Court publishes the reasons on austerity measures decisions

The pension's ratio, set by the contribution principle, is a won right. Therefore, reducing the pension cannot be accepted, not even temporary. This is how the Romanian Constitutional Court motivates its decision to declare the law draft addressing the 15% cut in pension unconstitutional. This cut in pensions was part of the austerity measures' package for which the Boc Cabinet took responsibility in the Parliament.

For the first time after 1989, ordered press campaigns were defined as a serious threat to the country's security in Romania's Defense Strategy, one newspaper reads on Thursday. Elsewhere in the news, National Central Bank Chief Economist Valentin Lazea declared that a quarter of state employees should be fired if the government wants to increase back salaries with 25%. Rains yellow code warning in Moldova and Oriental Carpathians

Judges from the Romanian Constitutional Court (CCR) ruled out this morning (June 25) that several articles addressing austerity laws are unconstitutional. According to judicial sources quoted by Romanian news agency Agerpres, CCR ruled out that certain articled entailed in the Law addressing austerity measures for pensions were declared unconstitutional. The Government has taken responsibility for these laws in the Parliament.

Romanian citizen Ioan Clamparu (41) is listed with Interpol's most wanted 26 criminals in the world, Daily Mail reads. Clamparu, which is thought to be hiding in Great Britain, is wanted by the Romanian Police for alleged accusations of forcing more than 100 women into prostitution in Spain. Plus, believe he's got contacts in night clubs and clubs in great Britain and Ireland

UPDATE The Constitutional Court postponed for Friday the decision on the austerity measures law

The Constitutional Court posponed for Friday a decision on the complaints related to the government's measures to cut budgetary salaries and pensions, after a six hour meeting. Debates will be started on Friday, at 9AM. If judges will declare the laws unconstitutional, the cuts will most probably not be implemented and the IMF installment will be postponed as well.

Orange code alert for massive rain in North East Romania

Meteorologists issued on Thursday an orange code alert and a yellow code alert for 11 counties for massive rain. The alerts enter into force on Friday at 12pm and expire on Saturday at 12pm. According to the National Meteorology Institute, in the mentioned period, a yellow code alert is instated in Moldova, East of Transilvania and Maramures.
